Self Assessment Mid-Semester

In this learning community I have found many compelling articles and topics that we have gone over. At the beginning of the semester we went over what Web 2.0 really is and how it comapares to the original Web 1.0. This was most interesting to me because we went over various different applications that I use everyday so I easily related to this topic because of the innovating new programs such as Flickr. Also going back to the Scholz readings these topic questions really got my brain going! It was very interesting reading articles such as these because I couldn't relate to this much so I had to expand my knowledge which is always a great thing because I really like learning about new things everyday!

What I like most about this NCLC 249 class is that it goes over what new technology is out there on the web and how convenient they are to use to make my life more simple! I really liked how we went over how to use delicious because I would be that person at home scrolling forever down my favorites list trying to find the link I want. Now I know how to use delicious and it makes looking for favorites or bookmarks so much easier and it saves me a bunch of time which is always a good thing. Another great thing about this learning community is that I can relate to almost all the topics that we go over in class in the real world. In most other classes I would be going over topics with no use of me using in my free time. While during NCLC classes such as this one I can most certainly apply all knowledge given here to my daily use and upgrade my computer skill knowledge in ways that make me a great source for computer use.

The major that I am currently pursuing is adveritsing, one of the reasons why I took this course was to find new innovating ways in which the computer can help me both market, promote, and make things look more appealing by using various computer programs. Knowing how to develop ways to advertise and promote items is key. The internet is blowing up with social networking as we discussed in class and by going over the advertising perspective too, I can relate to this because one day I might be that guy looking to pay either facebook or myspace for advertising space on their social networking sites. I defenitely feel that for the second half of this semester that I will defenitely find more ways in which it can advance my advertising skills. So I am glad in taking this class because its advancing all of my computer skills in which they can help me succeed in the real world advertising.
